[0:00] Transcription by CastingWords And the first time stopped, and this world was set in, and he had given him an interest in it, and there was a very great slaughter.
[0:41] For the hell of this world was thirty thousand good men, and the ark of God was speaking. And then at verse twenty, And the messenger answered and said, This world is thirty-gold, and there have been also a place to offer among the people, and my two sons, Harkin, and Phineas, and Ther, and the ark of God was speaking.
[1:13] And it came to pass when he made mention in the out-of-the-door, that he turned from the seat, from the seat back, from the side of the gate, and his neck bleak, and that was an old man, and he had just his turn for forty years.
[1:33] And as George and the law, Phineas' wife, was a child, near to be delivered. When she heard the tidings of the ark of God was speaking, and the Father in the Lord, and the trust of the dead, she bowed herself unto the aid, for his pain came upon her.
[1:54] And about the time of the day, the women of the fire said unto her, He is not a most former son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
[2:10] And she named the child, Agrabah, saying, The glory is departed from the soul, because the ark of God was speaking, and because of the Father in the Lord, and the trust of the Lord.
[2:26] And she said, The glory is departed from the soul, for the ark of God was speaking. And these words in the last words, she named the child, Agrabah, She said, The glory is departed from the soul, and the ark of God was speaking.
[2:51] A certain word being so low, politically and spiritually, in the history of the soul, As the bread of the time of the sun began to judge the nation.
[3:14] The people have given themselves holy unto idolatry. And it came and be asked to a state of political and spiritual bankruptcy.
[3:28] And it came and said, That is what always happens, When a Christian nation turns its back upon the Lord. One of the Psalms says that God will make a banner at that land to the banner for the sins of the people.
[3:50] Now we can see this state of the nation, In the light of what it had been before, The conscience is managed in that.
[4:05] At one time they were slaves in a strange light. For four hundred years, Almost, They were replaced.
[4:16] But now, What shall come unto them? They have been given a land of the Lord. And they were slaves.
[4:27] In their own land. Slaves to the first-side courts. And they have lost their property.
[4:39] They have lost their goods. They have lost their families. We may have lost their husbands. Wives were taken away after. And perhaps what was the worst of all, They have lost their poor independence.
[4:59] They have no liberty To say or to do as they please. And then at last to their extent, They have recourse to a very stupid action.
[5:18] As men are allowed to do silly things In an extreme moment. The children of Israel Did a very stupid thing.
[5:31] They met the Philistines in battle. And they took the ark of God. Something that had never been done before. They took the ark of God With them to the battle.
[5:44] Thinking that the blessings of the ark Would discalpate the Philistines And to give them to victory.
[5:56] It did not turn out to be like that. Now, this is all Something that is quite evidently.
[6:10] When people come to An extremity In any sense They are out to do Things Which normally they would avoid.
[6:27] They are out to attach Much better power To their own efforts And to their own traditions And superstition.
[6:42] We are out to attach And much better effort To a world of class history. We have made men A little over a hundred years ago Men like Dr. Chan Sweetin Sorry, Duncan One of the American Theologians said That probably no nation Was ever gifted With such A Clout Of Eminent And pious Theologians As the land of Scotland Was at that time Though that is not All that young Muggle But we have More or less Back than that And then When the power Is gone And the glory We go back
[7:44] And we think Upon our heritage As if that was to do Is Any good The ark Is The ark Was a symbol Of the presence Of God And man That's what God Leeds And The Sokina Glory Now Tonight We can just Say one Of two Things To you By way Of Applying this To a whole Situation First of all I want to Point out To you That there is That glory In the gospel Of Jesus Christ Remember Of all Who He calls it The glorious Gospel Of God In the face Of Jesus Christ And indeed It would not
[8:45] Be long To say That All the glory There is In the world In eyes In Or Is Through The gospel I know Of no glory That comes In any Of it Avenue But by the Gospel Glorious Gospel Of the Lord Jesus Christ I may mention One or two Of the Beams Of glory That we Have to It One of Them Is Converting Glory That belongs To the Gospel Of the Lord No Thanks It's A sobering Thought And Cementously Sullen That there Are Thousands And Millions Of People In
[9:45] The World Tonight Dying And there Is No doubt From the Scriptures But that A source Will be Asked For the Some The People That They Have Never Heard Of the Gospel Of Jesus Christ This is The Tenor Of How Can They Believe In Him Of Who They Have Not Heard God Says Paul And No Man Can Believe In A Christ In Whom He Has Not Heard How There Are Literally Handcakes Of Millions Of People In The World Who Have Never Heard Of Christ Now Without Dealing With The Submency Of God And The Mind As Far As Any Human Mind Is Able To As A There Is No Hope For Those Who Die Without
[10:47] Knowing Of The Lord Jesus Christ That Is In The Sense Of Hebrism Now The Gospel We Are Told God Law Converts The Soul The Gospel Has Converting Power Wherever It Goes It Has That The Gospel Is Not Always Converting Those Who Listen To It Or To Who It Can But It Has That Latent Power That It Can Convert Us So For The Seed Of The World Falls As I Have Often Not People For The Seed Of The World Falls There Is Hope It Certainly Was A Mother Of Speculation On The Part Of Some Of The Holy
[11:47] Father Who Asked Why Was One Even Cross Saved And Not Another It Was Pure Speculation On The Part Saved But Probably The Penitent Thief Had To Be Taught Way By His Peel By His Mother At House Regarding The Coming Messiah For Us The Other Not And That He Saw The Glory Of His I Say Because Of This Seed That Was Planted In The Soul In His Young Days Well He Said Like The Truth It May Be And It May Not I Don't Know But Where The Seed Of The Gospel Is There The Gospel Converts Us All I Should Like To Say This As We Go Along If Tonight You Happen To Be One Of Those Who
[12:48] Plays For The Conversion Of A Soul Are You Are In A Happy Position Of Seeing The Person For Who We Are Playing Getting Hearted All The Time Turning Us Back More On God In Fact Although You Have Started With Your Children Maybe As Best As You Could Since They Go On And As They Go On It Seems That They Become More And More Intuitive And More And More Careless And More And More Careless To Any Left Mind Or Instruction That You Can Give Or That You Are Giving Now Then I Want To Tell You In The Name Of The Lord Jesus Christ Don't You Lose Hope Whatever You Do Don't Lose
[13:48] With Faith In God You Remembered That On The Nights Were Lible You Swore To Receive The Word They Were Soft As Men And Seat Is Their And You Continue Play And You Remembered That The Work Is In The Hand Of God In The Gospel Of The Son Son The Glorious Gospel Of Son And God Can Take Out Of The Very Grave Of Nature He Can Take Out What Rots And Stinks And Make A New Creature In Christ Jesus And You Pray Pray That The One Who Came To The Name Of Lazarus Will Come In The Power Of The Spirit And Stand Over The Dead Crops
[14:48] Of The One Over Whom You Pray The Dead Stinking Soul Stinking Of Sin And What He Says The Word That Then Life Will Come Now The Second Thing I Would Say Is That The Gospel Has Fast For In Power How Does A Glorious Thing To Be Said For The Gospel I Will Not Dwell United In Length But Talking To Those Of You Who Are The Lost People You Will Agree With Me That Your Heart Is Out To Corruption And The Old To Be Glow The More Conscious You Become Of This And You Won't Say But How Can I Get Into Glory Is Heaven A Peaceful Me I Not Fit For It And In All He Says To
[15:48] Me And Thoughts Came Into His Mind Sometimes Suddenly And In The Most Unexpected Places And Times Which He Can You And Dedicate The Will Of Thinking And You Can Do Of A Sense Of So That You Can Do That Now The Gospel Has A Transformed Glory And It Will Change With Thy Heart To Be Pure Like God That's What It Does That's What God Promised To Do There Is That Glory In The Gospel That Can Change The Vibest Saints To Be Pure Than Even An Ancient Heaven To Be As Pure In The Sense Of Sinless But More Glorious In The Sight Of God In The Sense That
[16:49] The One Is Indeed And The Others Not The One Has Been Sucked About It By Where A Closeness The Other Has Not Been And The Third Thing That I Will Mention About The Gospel About The Glory Of The Gospel Is It Gives Peace To The Heart And Soul Gold Now Peace Cannot Be Bought In Silver Or Gold It Is Worth More Than That And Although There Are Some People Who Need To
[17:55] There are a thousand things which come upon us to cross God's service. Now, the gospel has a glory, a mysterious glory.
[18:07] A strange thing is, but the more we can put at my Christian, the more peace enters into his heart.
[18:17] Now, friends, frankly, I tell you that I just don't understand it. I don't.
[18:27] But I know it's true. I know it's true, experimentally. I know that the heavier my own burdens ever have been, the more the peace of God is still into my heart.
[18:42] And I know that in the case of other people, too, I've seen it actually happening. I have got plenty of things in this life to convince me of the reality and true of Christianity, even if I didn't know anything at all about it myself.
[18:59] I've seen it happen. It gives peace in the midst of the rich of the sea. And the last thing I would say here is that it has been glory of hope.
[19:15] Hope is a living hope that will never perish. Hope that will never drown. Hope that will never be quenched or destroyed.
[19:30] Hope in the midst of all possibilities, in the midst of all darknesses. The night is never so dark that there isn't that elipse of hope shining through it, like the Christian has done.
[19:50] You read the prophecy of Jeremiah. And you see that this was the case with the weeping prophet. In fact, I would challenge you, but there's no more, no doubt.
[20:02] To find any Christian in the Bible. And some of them went to the Bible and gave the trials than any of the rest of them.
[20:13] I would challenge you to keep any Christian in the Bible who relinquished as hope and in God. Who did in those times. You see, there was a coming text, which is very often quoted in this connection.
[20:32] From the book of Job. Though he slew me, yet will I must be. But that is not exactly what Job said at all.
[20:44] What Job actually said was, Though he has slain me, yet will I must be. Things have gone so bad in his experience, that in yet, as if he had already been slain, that nothing more could come up high, that was worse than what came.
[21:06] And he said, In spite of all that, God is aware of status that was undying slave. But yet will I hope.
[21:18] That's the classic things in the Bible. But you will find him too blind. Now the point is here that the glory of the gospel can depart from a nation, from a church, and rather than to the Jews, as it did for me.
[21:35] Why then does it depart? It has departed. This nation, it has departed for us as a church.
[21:49] It's easy enough to do that. You know, 70 years ago, every single church in the wilderness was marked out of the door by a Saturday evening.
[22:03] I was speaking to a man who remembered when he wanted, if they wanted to get their own pew in a clean-off church for the six o'clock service, they had to be sitting at a five o'clock an hour before.
[22:19] And this church was packed out Gary and all, and all the churches were here. And the population has exploded since then.
[22:33] And you know what church school is like in a town. And that's only a little thing that we see.
[22:44] Now, there's no doubt that the glory didn't pass. The glory is departed from the nation. But that is, then me.
[22:56] More shoes. We have lost our glory as a Christian nation. And we're not willing to be called a Christian nation.
[23:10] May I say, with all due respect, that it has departed from the royal house. And with all due respect, without speaking against the royal peace, it has departed from the golden houses, the house of doors, and the house of commons.
[23:31] some years ago, some years ago, there was powerful respect for the name of God than there is today.
[23:42] It has departed. And then, the question arises, why does the glory depart? And let me just spend a little too long about it.
[23:56] The glory departs departs because of the you know that this is true, not only until you have surgery.
[24:22] You put your money, or put your pleasures, or put your house, or put your time. in the place of God, other glory will depart from its home and from its soul.
[24:40] You put your ministry in the place of God, other glory will depart from the congregation. You know, one of the names of God is Genghis, with a capital J.
[24:56] And God will not pay to drive any claim in him. I am matching early or actually in his presence. I am going to put anything in the place of God.
[25:10] You are going to lose the glory of the gospel in your own heart, in your congregation, in your home, and in your vicinity, in your community, in your community.
[25:23] So we, we all put the idol of pleasure, or the idol of greed, or the idol of covetousness, or the idol of idleness, we put that in the place of God.
[25:39] And the glory in the prophets promise, not just one means. and a second reason is the tolerance of errors when error goes unchecked then the glory of the Lord departs from a nation and from the church error goes unchecked and wickedness goes unchecked and so the glory of the Lord departs these two things cannot coexist practices and wickedness the one is to give way to the other and we never tell righteousness has given way to wickedness this is the case when chiefs of police and judges sometimes say publicly that there is no hope for this until there is some amendment in the affliction of justice of our doers but we are living in a day when the laws of the man seem to be biased towards the wrongdoer all the time if you touch society at its worst which fortunately for us we don't do in the sphere in which we go we don't touch society at its worst at its worst and at least most of the story but the huge society has worked you will find that the law seems to be on the whole on the side of the evil doers and not on the side of the righteous men no one this has tolerated the glory of the Lord departs and it is tolerated in the church how come the glory of the Lord be in the church again if as happens now I say this
[27:41] I hope in the presence of God's evil heart you know that I don't criticize churches by name or denominations I don't want to do that but you know as well as I do that there are here and far between in every man in every woman who believe in the deity of Jesus Christ who believe in the virgin version of the Lord Jesus who believe in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus who believe in the miracles of the Lord Jesus you see Professor Barclay whose writings are so long among young people and even among young church people he writes so beautifully and his writings are his his heresies are so serious that some of those young people are embodying them they don't know that they are he doesn't believe in the miracles he doesn't believe in the virgin book he doesn't believe in the actual resurrection of the Lord
[29:02] Jesus Christ but unless he's very careful weeping his writings you would think that he does but he doesn't no thanks it's not the glory departed when this is tolerated in the church what hope it is I behold the glory of the divine well now when the gospel continues in our community that is our moment of the free and sovereign and good will of God just to say that's when the gospel continues when the gospel comes to the land think of the parable the parable of the vineyard for those people despised the servants the Lord who gave the vineyard from them and gave them to others and did that justly so if the glory has not completely departed from our land and from our church and from our congregation and from our homes it is not because we deserve that it shouldn't be that's not why it hasn't departed we didn't deserve to have it given to us at the beginning and now we don't deserve to have it continue to us because when the spice did we are not just with it but God in his graciousness has continued this and gospel with rays however dim of his glory to shine upon this world now what are the signs of the glory having been departed
[30:56] I will mention just one or two of them very briefly and the first answer the first study of this is that as a rule gospel ordinances are not followed with the power of the Holy Spirit but in his signs and then let me just explain to you what I mean in this matter we have to say we have to confess with rejoicing that as far as we can judge the glory of the Lord has not departed from us as a congregation or to carry it like that but in comparison with what there used to be we can say I have brought the glory as the party we have people converted among us we have people come to the
[32:07] Trinity who two months ago three months ago I've seen them come increasingly that it's the last thing in the world they would have done it is not all together a so in time in this congregation it's our reaping time as well the reaping is pure part between it's only a sheep here and there that it is joy in the presence of the ancients of God all one sin that remains now what I was saying is that when the gospel is not followed the means of grace the ordinances of the gospel is not followed by frequent connexion it is because the glory has departed from us look at the difference between what we are and what people were saying a hundred years ago when the glory of the gospel was in the highlands
[33:17] I keep you all night telling stories of men and women who walked thirty miles to the fortior water and the crystal cake to hear the gospel and they would eat it after they heard the sermon they would eat it in some part place and then make their journey back the thirty miles after the service and begin their work again on the Monday now did you think we have the glory of the gospel to that extent today I myself as you know saw in my young days I saw a church far far far bigger than this one probably a church traveling on four times it's size and I saw it through every night except Saturday and full of
[34:17] Sabbath and full of both services with all them young because the glory of the gospel was shining full bright in those days days it is not like that day nobody is like I know in this land days well I speak in comparatively but the glory is not departed as long as we do get a soul but the glory is departed by way of contrast when we see so few souls listen and this is one of signs that the holy spirit does not accompany the ordinances of the gospel either by confession or by sanctification oh I often worry about this it's one of the biggest worries I have in my life I must say it's one of the heaviest burdens
[35:21] I have to bear apart from my own soul and that is that I see so little of the glory of sanctification going on in the hearts of people so little of relevance so little of the power of God working in people's lives so little of the gospel working powerfully and in reality making people do things because this power is the love of Christ constraining them but the love of Christ constrains them they can't help but do it means that's the glory of the gospel well what a glory is departed the preaching will use the power of them ministers can be practical in their language but people won't do what they say ministers can be taught
[36:23] China in their night but people won't follow what they say ministers can be experimented in their night and then people will yawn in the church because they don't follow the experiences and in public prayer as well as you see it simply prayer becomes weary when the glory of the gospel is departed do you remember what singing to yourself at one time do you remember how you longed to get to the seeking place and how you were afraid to leave it because of the nations of God holding to your heart and now it's so bad and staying as so it's frequently gone too but we pray as saying the glory is departed when people get up in public prayer and you hear the same thing day after day evening after evening the glory is departed if the glory were to come then those who lead us in public prayer there would be a newness a freshness in their prayer and the staleness would be gone the saleness would be gone and the staleness would be gone
[37:51] I think I told you already that John Martin saw the hard way to live in that congregation for many years and who had a revival before his day he said that the first thing he noticed was a revival in the letters of those who had the public they seemed to be different they seemed to be new they got done and he would say to himself well it seems as if I never heard him before in public they seemed to be new well friend if the glory is departed from us we are the same things all the time and nothing are the same things and so they would be like spiritual death and God heavenly life and the sign is very openness and I would just say this lawlessness in old and young when the glory is departed then there will be lawlessness in old and young
[39:00] I would dwell on this but I am not going to dwell on it but I would like to have the consensus of teaching opinions on this very matter and I am quite sure I am quite sure that many schools in the town many head masters and teachers in the town and from what I hear there are lot of lawlessness going on in schools the lot of teaching given to the teachers something that we were used to and there are lot of this going on but if we were to get a census of things I wanted to give houses for the word of God is ahead morning and evening if the children of such schools feel tougher to the teachers others of those who are
[40:02] Bibleless and Christless from whom the glory has already to man I was reading in one of the papers the other day of an 11 year old girl who was taken to court and church court and when she was put into the witness box to swear she had never heard about God and she didn't know what that Bible was and the judge would not accept her witness because it was not corroborated by her faith in what she was going to swear on she never heard about God she didn't know there was such a thing as a Bible she didn't know what it was when she was showing the book she didn't know what it was this is a sign of the market glory for lowlessness as it came to the people came to the spirit and then here we have the reality is the symbol substituted for the reality the act of
[41:17] God that was the symbol but the act was not God the act was the symbol of the presence of God and when they were at this extremity they thought they would take the symbol and searching to the symbol for the reality they thought there was something man she done about it but they would win a victory by taking it to the other side in other words what the door meant was this when they took the ark to the back and they missed it they thought that because of the ark God would be on their side that they did not make any effort to be on the side of God this indivference between the two things that's where it had to start that they had to be on the side of God then God would have been on their side they thought they would do best but they would get
[42:21] God to be on their side in providence and give them victories through the ark but that they would remain glorious as they were before idolatry as in previous times that we can do the Jewish empress and we can do the same thing substitute the symbol for reality do you know that the free church is not Christ and the side of the day and the attendance of the services that's not Christ and the preaching is not Christ and the creed and the orthodoxy is not Christ and I will tell you even more about you know the Bible for those who are with is not
[43:21] Christ nothing is Christ but Christ and the glory only comes from Christ and if we substitute a symbol for the reality anything at all of God then the glory of the heart and hearts and the last sign I will mention is the rejection of the gospel I will not dwell in it but compare the Jews who have thought yourselves and would be an everlasting night glory to the Gentiles and there was a time when those lives that we hear of today not that that was the seed of Christianity which became the seed of Christianity that was the place where the great men were all the men and these great men this was as it were the seed of the church you are getting today and there must go take
[44:30] Germany for example would seem to be in the seed of Christianity in the great continent of the Christian and then Russia the glory was the part pure than England England in promised time and after it Scotland the New Orleans and Boston's time and Dixon and the and men like these only to mention a few northern Ireland for the mighty power of God was in the world in a marvelous way for even to have to give a acre in×— at time was
